Ways to Give
Help Where It’s Needed Most
Your gifts will go where they make the biggest difference.
When you give to Where It’s Needed Most, you will help children and adults with disabilities live, work, play and thrive. At The Arc, we have seen what happens when a family has access to resources, when people live where and how they choose, and when workers earn competitive wages in jobs that value their skills and abilities.
Your gifts will go where they make the biggest difference, meeting urgent needs that might otherwise go unmet. When you give, you change lives, families and communities.

Help a family in need.
Your gift to the Family Fund helps struggling families where they need it most. Each year The Arc grants out over $25,000 to families in the community who are struggling to make ends meet. A Family Fund grant helps cover unfunded services like therapies, specialized medical equipment, respite care, camps, and more.
“It’s less of a financial stress for me to know that I can reach out and get help. I do the best that I can. I keep a roof over my daughter’s head. I am insanely frugal so that I can support her. But to know that there is funding for things that Medicaid doesn’t cover, for things that make such a difference in my daughter’s life, it’s just a huge burden off my shoulders. As a single mother, single resource household, you have no idea how much of a difference this makes to our family.”
Holly’s daughter Angel is a sweet seven-year-old. She cannot walk. She cannot talk. And, she wasn’t able to engage with the world around her.
Holly, was able to apply for a grant from The Arc’s Family Fund to help pay for a universal stand for Angel’s eye-gaze technology. This tablet-like device tracks eye movement and empowers Angel to communicate with the world around her. Medicaid would only fund for a stand for Angel’s wheelchair. But Angel isn’t always in her wheelchair – she’s sometimes on the ground, or a hospital bed, or in her own bed. Then the technology doesn’t do her any good – she loses her voice.
Thanks to a grant from the Family Fund, Holly was able to get a universal stand so that Angel can have access to her eye-gaze technology – and her voice – at all times. Without the grant from the Family Fund, the $1,100 stand would have been completely out of reach.
Honor someone you love by helping someone in need.
Celebrate special events, honor family members and friends, remember someone special, and recognize achievements and milestones. Your tribute will advance The Arc’s mission, and creates opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to live, work, play and ultimately thrive.
When a donation is received, the individual in whose honor it is given – or, in the case of a memorial gift, an individual of your choosing – will receive a card that acknowledges your contribution. Gift amounts are not shared.
Should you wish to include this information in an obituary, please feel free to use this wording: “In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The Arc Central Chesapeake Region. Please make checks payable to The Arc Central Chesapeake Region and mail them to: DEVELOPMENT

Please include a note sharing that your gift is in memory of (Name).”
Donating your car helps someone with disabilities with the key to their independence.
Give someone with disabilities the key to independence. Do you have an old car, boat, or motorcycle that you need to get rid of? An unused vehicle is an opportunity to do some good for your community! The Arc can take it off your hands and turn it into cash to directly help children and adults with disabilities live, work, play and thrive.
Fill out this form online, or call 1-877-ARC-CAR-0. Make sure to choose The Arc Central Chesapeake Region as your local chapter. We’ll arrange for a convenient time to pick up or tow your donated vehicle and take care of all necessary paperwork.
Donating stocks is a great way to make an impact.

Giving Through a Will
Explore how to give through your will, a charitable gift annuity, or trust.
Together we can build a brighter future and a stronger community where people with disabilities are included. In addition to fulfilling an important role in providing for the future financial security of your family and others, your will or living trust can continue to support children and adults with disabilities, to live, work, play and thrive.
Ways to Give Through Wills and Trusts:
- Make a gift of a specific amount. A gift of a particular amount may be designated for general use or to fund a special need.
- Provide for a gift of a particular property. Real estate, stocks and other items of value are examples of properties that can be used to fund charitable bequests.
- Designate that a percentage of your estate be given to The Arc Central Chesapeake Region through your will or living trust.
- Give the remainder, or residue, of your estate—that is, what remains after all other bequests to friends and loved ones are satisfied.
- Name charitable interests to receive a bequest in the event other heirs are not there to receive their legacies.
There is no limit on amounts deductible from federal gift and estate taxes for charitable gifts made by will or trust, so these taxes will not normally be due on assets given in this way. Estate taxes are also imposed by a number of states, and charitable gifts may be exempt from those taxes as well. To plan a charitable bequest, inform your attorney of your wishes when your will is being prepared and ask for advice regarding federal and state tax considerations and the best form for your gift.
If you decide to include a gift in your estate plans, our legal name is The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, Inc. and our tax ID number is 52-6047882.
If you have questions about leaving a legacy for The Arc in your will, please contact the development office at 410.384.4072, or email@example.com.
