“We are proud to continue innovating services and responding to the unique needs and challenges of the communities we serve. Your support is vital in making sure The Arc remains a resource for the people, families, and community around us.”

YOUR IMPACT

The Arc creates opportunities for people with disabilities to live, work, and connect with their communities, where and how they choose.

People. Community. Opportunity.

Below are 3 stories of success over the last year. Thanks to your support, these are just a few of the successes we’ve seen. For more stories and updates on how your support impacts people with disabilities, follow us on Facebook or sign up for our Impact Journal by contacting give@thearcccr.org.

People.

Moving is consistently rated as one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. Mark and Joe were stressed about moving to their new home and weren’t quite ready to step outside of their comfort zone.

The Arc understands that people are complex, and our emotions influence how we react to the world around us. That’s why our Behavioral Health program provides mental heath counseling and focuses on each person’s support system.

Mark and Joe were able to work with their team of clinicians and behavioral health associates ahead of the move to develop coping mechanisms to help manage the stress. Their team was able to create a safe space for Mark and Joe to step out of their comfort zones.

People are at the center of everything The Arc does.

Slide 1

Community.

Vivian moved to the Eastern Shore 3 years ago to be closer to her mother. Finding somewhere she could live was a challenge. “This is a beautiful and historic community. But, people like me aren’t considered at the time when so many things were built, “she said. “I would literally get in situations where I couldn’t move by myself.”

The Arc understands the critical role home plays in each person’s life. Together with Chesapeake Neighbors, The Arc is creating safe, affordable, and accessible housing for everyone.

“My home is amazing. The Arc designed it to be fully accessible, so I don’t need to worry about getting around on my own. And I get the support I need from The Arc staff. “

Community isn’t always about where you live. It’s also about feeling like you belong.

Slide 1

Opportunity.

Success starts in school. Valerie knew she needed someone to help her understand how to advocate for her son to receive the services he needed. “It was all so complicated I just needed an ally to help me understand what to ask for.”

The Arc knows that the earlier a child receives access to critical resources, the more opportunities there are later in life.

In addition to starting Project Learn to support parents like Valerie, The Arc created Project Learn Leadership Academy for kids like her son.

“The Arc taught me how to ask for what I need and made sure I feel comfortable asking”
