MicroEnterprise and Customized Employment
In an effort to seek new methods and techniques to address the overwhelming unemployment and under-employment issues that effect people with developmental disabilities, The Arc and partners have created the MicroEnterprise program. By tailoring the job to the abilities of the individual, The Arc has opened the door to business ownership for the individuals we serve.
Greg, 35, had a hard time finding employment that was right for him. Through the MicroEnterprise program and the state of Maryland, he purchased vending machines that he now manages. Then, he started his own window washing service, using only eco-friendly products. As he is working, you can often hear him singing “Money, Money, Money, Mon–ey!”
