Programs
Throughout the Central Chesapeake Region, The Arc assists over 1200 people in becoming active, productive and valued members of their communities.
Community Living
Qualified, trained support staff provide specialized assistance tailored to an individual's needs - anywhere from a few hours a week to 24-hour-a-day supervision. Support staff in all programs are thoroughly screened through a comprehensive interview process that includes a background check, driver's record check, physical and drug screening. Staff are also required to be trained in all aspects of developmental disabilities and are certified in CPR, Standard First Aid, and Medication Administration. The Arc maintains 28 homes and apartments for over 50 people throughout Anne Arundel County. We also assist people in finding roommates, whether it be someone receiving services from The Arc or another community member. Finally, The Arc helps individuals find apartments or homes of their own.
To make community living more affordable, The Arc helps in applying for and gaining access to all government benefits including rent subsides, food stamps, SSI, energy assistance, Medicare and Medicaid.

Our overall goal is to provide high quality, family-like, individualized services to children in need of residential services. Our programs support children with intense medical needs and medical fragility as well as children with behavioral and/or psychiatric issues. We strive to be innovative and flexible as we build a plan that will provide services that best fit each individual child.

Respite Care Program
Respite Care helps families grow by providing them with a short-term break from the ongoing care of a family member with developmental disabilities. Respite Care services are available for both children and adults. The Arc feels that the best way to provide respite services is if the family selects their own respite care provider. This way the family and the individual are comfortable with the person that is providing this service. The Arc would in turn reimburse the family for a portion of the cost that the provider is paid. The Respite Care Program helps over 55 families, children, and adults annually.

Chesapeake Neighbors, LLC
Opening Doors - A Home of Your Own Project assists individuals with mental retardation and related cognitive and developmental disabilities to rent or own their own homes, ultimately achieving independent living in the community of their choice. Our primary goal is the availability of statewide opportunities for "self-controlled and self-determined housing."
The Project also advocates for the resources necessary to achieve those goals. It advocates for changes in government and private funding systems to best optimize self-determined housing opportunities while formulating state and federal policy recommendations on needed improvements in housing public policy.
